Florence

Are you thinking of popping the question to your significant other? If so, you may wish to avoice going to Florence!

According to the latest research from the Ukash Travel Money Prepaid MasterCard card, Florence is the most expensive romantic hotspot in Europe to buy a dozen long stemmed red roses. With the arrival of Spring nothing beats a romantic getaway to one of Europe’s capitals of love, especially if popping the question is on the agenda. And with the best exchange rate in seven years, loved up couples are likely to get more for their money.

Although anyone heading off for a romantic break can make the most of the great currency deals currently on offer, Ukash urges travellers to still keep an eye on their budget when it comes to all the grand gestures, such as dinner and roses. It’s not just a case of picking the less expensive destination, but ensuring spending on the trip doesn’t come with any unexpected surprises.

Looking at Europe’s most romantic cities, Ukash research* shows that a bouquet of a dozen, long-stemmed red roses costs €93.60 in Florence, making it the most expensive place in Europe to woo a loved one. Venice comes in second with a bouquet costing €80 followed by Paris and London at €60 and €56 respectively.

But anyone on a budget, and still wanting to make a special impression could think about Seville in Spain where a dozen red roses cost just €36. Amsterdam – the home of the tulip – also offers a slightly more economical option at €48 for a bouquet.

“A romantic, European city break can provide the perfect setting if you are asking that special someone for their hand in marriage,” says James Allum, Chief Commercial Officer, Ukash CEO. “However, our research shows that if you are looking for a bouquet of red roses to make the trip extra special then it could really make a dent in your holiday budget. It’s a shock to see that the cost of roses could rocket by over €55, depending on which city you visit.
